In my fourteen years experience as a practicing
Feng Shui Consultant, I have come to see the importance of Feng Shui
work and the multi-dimensional impact that it has on clients lives on a
daily basis. Unbeknownst to me, my life, as it manifested through my
various careers as a social worker, psychotherapist, and intuit
counselor, was preparing me for the work many years later I would be
called to do. It is only when I look back in retrospect can I see how
each piece of my life’s experience has had a golden string of continuity
that connected and interweaved throughout all my “current life
incarnations”.
And although sometimes it is quite stressful,
collectively, this process creates a magnetic field around you that will
ultimately pull in the right opportunity, mentor or training program.
Your experience then, becomes yet another manifestation of the alignment
process that happens through Feng Shui as you begin working with its
powerful forces of energy. Being called to change careers, move
out of state or end a relationship is not uncommon as your life realigns
itself for a different path. This comes with the territory and honor of
doing “bigger picture work”.
No one is spared from this process, for it takes a very
special soul who is willing to look at his or her life honestly,
directly and accept graciously what is mirrored back.
Every one of my colleagues can attest to this process of constant
change, challenge and commitment. Each one brings their personal
experiences, life issues and triumphs to all the work they do, the
classes that they teach and the training programs that they design. All
these aspects need to be honored, respected and energetically considered
when researching which mentor or training program to consider. I often
tell my students to first do their research, then use their intuition to
guide them to the right program or teacher. I encourage them to base
their decision on how they “feel” on a gut level, then ask for spiritual
guidance on which program will ultimately serve their path, if they wind
up as a Feng Shui consultant or not.
In my opinion, the learning process should be perceived
as a life long endeavor. After almost fourteen years of study, I still make it my
business to sit in on Professor Lins’ Feng Shui 101 workshops at least
4/5 times a year. I honor the old adage that states, “Once the teacher,
always the student”.
To me, it really doesn’t matter which school of Feng Shui or which mentor one chooses for their educational process.
What is important to me is that one chooses a teacher or program (or
many) that does not minimize, undermine, or devalue the very important
life work that Feng Shui is here to do.
A Feng Shui Practitioner’s work can be very joyful and
rewarding, but the commitment process requires each individual to be the
clearest conduit they can be in order for universal guidance to pass
through them for direction and to assist others in their healing
process. Believing that a weekend workshop or a five day training is
enough to begin your practice as a consultant may be true or not, but
thinking that you are no longer in need of continued training and
processing is a false misconception. In truth “we are only able to take
our clients as far as we are willing to go ourselves”, and the
“perpetual student syndrome” should become part of our life long
spiritual practice and commitment to excellence. Advanced Feng Shui
work in the next millennium will ask of us to work with individuals from
a heart, soul, and life path perspective. Along with that commitment
should come a willingness to be trained in the “multi-dimensional
processes” of Feng Shui work and the willingness to do our own
personal confrontation and healing work.
Often as I speak to students who are inquiring about the
process of becoming a Feng Shui Consultant, to my dismay, I see them
speaking through their own life experience of internalized limitations.
Concerns such as time, availability, financial resources, and lack of
convenience re: travel, are all very real, but mundane
conundrums. Some of those issues are actually the “grist for the mill”; the
cutting edge obstacles that sharpen your clarity and help you
define if Feng Shui is an interest versus a life path.
Feng Shui as a profession, is not for everyone.
Although many are called to do this work, ultimately, few are chosen.
The obstacles are part of the process to help you define that calling.
For in that calling, you make a bigger commitment than to the profession
itself, for you are committing to ultimately helping the planet to make
its quantum leap forward into the next millennium. Understanding as
much as we can about that process of change, and its impact on the
client, planet, and world at large, is crucial to applying Feng Shui for
its highest good, and for its true purpose of what it is here to do.
Although we are taught, (and I do personally teach this)
the importance of Feng Shui and how it impacts on our relationships,
career, and finances, in truth, that is only one superficial layer of
what it is truly here to transcend. The more we resolve to studying its
scientific benefits, effects on health and committing to understanding
the deeper and deeper realms of its gifts, the more will be unveiled and
shown to us to help us aid human sufferings, and the limitations of the
human condition.
Feng Shui will be a very important player in the
transition for higher achievement, and good, in the next decade. My
request to you is that when considering Feng Shui as a profession, apply
those considerations with the same dignity, expectations, and commitment
that you would to any or all other work of value. The universe has
given us the environment as our schoolroom to help understand not only
the nature of life, but also the power of the life force. And through
that exploration we directly affect individual lives and the quality of
human existence.
When challenged by mundane concerns, regarding your
training program or a Feng Shui consultant, explore the nature of their
origin, and if those concerns ie: financial, travel, time, are a
reality, I encourage you to honor them. Then set forth your intentions
to your higher power and ask for those obstacles to be lifted if it is
part of your life’s path to do this work. If the obstacles are not
removed, then accept and trust that they were placed there not as a
block to your life’s work, but as an impasse to help point you in the
correct direction. Often, these obstacles are not a detour at all, but
provide you with the universal gift known as “the great delays”. That
gift, when graciously accepted, will act as an energy field that is
lovingly realigning the variables that are needed for your specific life
path to unfold.
As a Feng Shui enthusiast or consultant, our first
lesson, and challenge, is to accept unconditionally this process of
“life changes”. Many times, if given the situation, then given choice,
it would not be what we choose for ourselves… consciously. But,
the universe is always working in Divine Order, and trust that there
is no mundane obstacle that exists on the planet that is bigger or
greater than the Universal plan. So, if it is part of your Karma,
your work here on the planet to be a Feng Shui Consultant, then the
first step of the process is your commitment to see that work through.
Once you open up to the willingness to relinquish control, face your
fears, and allow the changes that are needed to take place in your life,
the obstacles that once served as a deterrent will be lifted because
they will no longer be needed. The age-old wisdom of the Chinese adage
states that there are five main factors that will determine your life:
destiny, luck, Feng Shui, accumulated good deeds and…education. Learn to
draw on all of them and you will maximize your life’s potential.
